How to read military time
Hours 0000–1159 are AM (0000 = midnight, 0900 = 9 AM). From 1200–2359 subtract 1200 for PM (1300 = 1 PM, 1800 = 6 PM, 2300 = 11 PM). Spoken aloud, 1700 is 'seventeen hundred'.

It removes AM/PM ambiguity — critical in operations, aviation, healthcare and emergency services where a mistaken '7 o'clock' can mean a 12-hour error.
