The formula

minutes = (decimal − whole hours) × 60. For 7.75: (0.75) × 60 = 45 minutes → 7:45. Multiply the full decimal by 60 only if there are no whole hours.

Frequently asked questions

What is 0.25 of an hour in minutes?

0.25 × 60 = 15 minutes. Quarter-hour decimals are the most common on timesheets: 0.25, 0.50, 0.75.

Why is 7.33 hours not 7 hours 33 minutes?

Because the fraction is of an hour, not of minutes: 0.33 × 60 ≈ 20 minutes, so 7.33 hours = 7:20. This is the most common timesheet misreading.
